App studio

Real need.
Real app.

iapiap builds iOS apps, for iPhone, that help in everyday life. Each one starts from a real pain and must pass a truth test before going further. The ones that fail get stopped.

The need

After a move, you can't find your things. The “kitchen” box holds three hundred of them.

The answer

Snap each box as you fill it. Kartö recognises the items, numbers the boxes and prepares the labels. Then one search is enough: “charger”, box 12.

The truth test

On 10 October, 20 items searched for in real boxes. 16 must be found for Kartö to continue. H1

  • Snap the box
  • Or dictate what's inside
  • Kartö recognises the items
  • Stick the QR label
  • Find anything in one search

5 apps in development

In development

Each must first pass the five principles, then its truth test. The ones that fail get stopped, and you will read about it here.

Method

How an iapiap app is born.

The name says the method:

iapiap sets out to prove that a useful app can be born in a few days, and die just as fast if nobody needs it.

iapiap's method borrows a lot from Y Combinator: make something people want, put it in their hands fast, and listen to the people who use it.

  1. 01

    Find the pain

A real problem, frequent and annoying enough that people change a habit. Never a technology looking for a use.

  2. 02

    Put it in hands, fast

An iPhone prototype within days, tried by real people in real situations.

  3. 03

    Pass the truth test

A number, set before the test. Below it, the app stops. Above it, it carries on.

  4. 04

    Ship, or stop

An app that passes ships on the App Store. An app that fails stays here, with the reason it stopped.

The tools

The apps are designed and coded with, among others, the help of Claude, Anthropic's AI. Expo and TestFlight to test on iPhone, Supabase in Europe for data. AI speeds things up; the judgement stays human.

The studio's motto

make an ai-app that people want

A nod to Y Combinator, and a guardrail: if nobody wants it, we don't build it.

Principles

Five principles.

They filter every idea before the first line of code.

P1

A need before an idea.

We start from a real pain, never from a technology.

P2

One app, one gesture.

If it needs a manual, it isn't finished.

P3

We kill fast.

Every app takes a truth test. Below the threshold, we stop, and we say so.

P4

The iPhone, done right.

Native, accessible, respectful of your data.

P5

We show the work.

The decisions, the numbers, and the failures too.

Who

Behind the studio.

iapiap was founded by Maxime A. Four companies co-founded, two of which failed and taught him more than the successes. Twenty years between large companies and strategy consulting, with one reflex: find the real problem before the solution, and know when to stop.

As a startup CEO, I listened to my CTO without understanding everything. So, go: Le Wagon. Today I code, with AI to go faster.
